Dear Cancer, You and I have known each other most of my life. From my great aunt's lung cancer, to my sister's brain tumor, my mother's vocal cord AND inflammatory breast cancer, and my own brain tumor, you've been everywhere I look. You taught me the value of living each day because nothing is promised. You showed me the need to let go of petty problems and disagreements...

Dear cancer, I literally hate that I can't talk about the future anymore because I feel like it's pointless. Since the doctors told me I had less than a year to live I keep questioning why I even have dreams and wishes anymore. Just know that I hate you because I know that I'm not going to be here to see my niece grow up or be the maid of honor in my best friends wedding. It's the little things that count and I hate you for taking that away from me.

Dear Cancer: At first you never bothered me, I did whatever needed to be done. I never cried, sure you terrified me at times, but I was fine. Now I fight your aftermath, and learned the battle just continues.

Dear Cancer, You won't be the apocalypse that claims me. I'll survive you, and I will come out even more awesome on the other side.

Dear Cancer: I have been through Hell, but it doesn't mean I have to stay there.

Dear Cancer, you may think you have all power but there are certain things and feelings you cannot take away. For with Mother's Day around the corner I tell you and everyone this: For all of you who still have their mothers, and who may not always understand why they do what they do, who may be frustrated by their constant questions and concerns, who may feel they are not accepting that you are no longer a child, I have one request: next time you see your mom, just hold her hand a tad longer than you normally would.
