One-year anniversary and still cancer-free!

When I shared the news with some people their first comment was, "You're not supposed to celebrate this day. You're supposed to celebrate the anniversary after your last treatment."

No one was going to tell me what day I was going to celebrate. The tumor was removed a year ago on this date, and that's the day I became cancer-free, so that's the day I will celebrate.

During my one year check-up, my surgeon asked me about my treatments; how I did with them, who my oncologist was etc. (he didn't know I had not gone through with it). I told him I opted for an alternative treatment. It was a form of chemo but very low dose followed by vitamins.

He didn't agree with what I had done and insisted that I needed to do chemo – traditional chemo that is. He said if I didn't, that the chances of the cancer coming back were 60%. I felt like a child because my decision to go through IPT was not approved.

It didn't matter. I stood by my choice.

My birthday and time for another PET CT Scan. It was the best birthday present I could ask for, my results were normal again! I would now have scans once a year.
