DIY Face Mask Perfect For Irritated Skin During Or After Treatment

During chemotherapy my typically acne-prone, oily skin was the clearest it’s ever been. While this was welcome surprise, I struggled to combat the dryness and increased sensitivity that came along with this change. My chemotherapy cocktail also caused me to have awful rashes and bouts of acne unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

As a skincare and makeup addict, I was dedicated to find a solution. I needed something with calming and hydrating ingredients that was also clean. With a host of chemicals coursing through my body, I didn’t want more chemicals on my skin. Face masks were a perfect way for me to prioritize self-care and address my new skincare needs.

I specifically looked for ingredients that would not irritate my already sensitive skin and would help relieve some of the dryness and flaking. Cucumbers and oatmeal are two of the best natural ingredients for sensitive skin. Both foods are not only healthy and delicious when eaten, but when used on the skin they are soothing and help reduce inflammatory. Cucumbers also have high levels of caffeic acid to reduce swelling and irritation, commonly caused by chemotherapy and radiation. Yogurt is another effective ingredient for face masks because it gently exfoliates that dead skin that can build up when you are dealing with dryness or overly oily skin. The face mask I am sharing below from Hello Glow contains all of these power packed ingredients as well as sage, which naturally removes dead skin cells and adds vitamin A and calcium to your skin.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons plain, sugar-free yogurt
2 tablespoons pureed cucumber
2 tablespoons oatmeal
1 teaspoon chopped sage

Instructions

1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl
2. Massage the mixture into clean, damp skin
3. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and relax with soothing music, a meditation session or a good book
4. Rinse the mask off with warm water and enjoy your hydrated and soothed skin

Set aside some time this weekend to try out this mask and I promise your skin will thank you!
