Cancer In One Word: Intention

Let's face it, when you are faced with a cancer diagnosis, you learn a lot of new words - and old words take on a whole new meaning. In a new series of guest blog posts from cancer coach Tambre Leighn, she will be exploring many of these words that we all can associate with. Read more to find out what she says about the word "intention."

Intention. It is a powerful word. It embodies elements of focus, clarity and action. It is greater than a singular goal or series of goals. Setting an intention involves looking at the energy you are bringing to a conversation, relationship or situation.

My intention for the next series of guest blog posts for IHadCancer is to explore words and the impact they can have –both positive and negative-on the cancer journey, while expanding their meaning. Language colors the way we experience the world and how others experience us.

What is the intention you have for your cancer journey? If you could design the most empowered experience, what would that look like? It's not about denying the tough days, the painful moments or the challenges that come from going through diagnosis, treatment and on into survivorship. You have the power to decide how you intend to take on your cancer.

Are you willing to ask for and accept help? Perhaps your intention is to be open to receive. Do you choose to be a strong self-advocate? Your intention may be to be an informed and provocative patient.

Will you step up and do all you can to create wellness and well-being in all areas where your actions can have an impact? Then maybe you are someone who is a proactive participant, easily following survivorship care plan guidelines and generating healthy lifestyle behaviors in all areas.

There is energy in your intention. It is a reminder of WHO you are beyond your diagnosis - even when pain or fear threaten to make you feel small. It embodies your strength, passion and the commitment you have to take on cancer and come out on top. No matter what.

So, what is YOUR intention?
