Dr. Jun Mao, Chief of the Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, explains it like this: "Cupping is a common technique used in traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional cupping includes using flame to create heat, as the hot air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum suction. Cupping can be used to treat muscle aches or common colds in China.
