April is recognized as the official awareness month in the U.S. for the following Cancer Types:
Testicular, Esophageal, and Head and Neck. Although we believe that awareness for ALL cancers should be year-round, awareness months are a great way to start important conversations about specific causes that may get overlooked throughout the year. But 'awareness' doesn't mean you have to run every 5K race in the name of a cause, or dump a bucket of ice water over your head and challenge your friends to follow (although we love both of those examples!).
Awareness can be as simple as wearing an item in support of loved ones or family, starting a conversation about signs, symptoms or side effects, or reminding your loved ones to go to the doctor and ask about preventative screenings. Simply sharing your story can be a great way to bring awareness to your type of cancer.
One of our partner organizations,
Choose Hope has been raising awareness for almost 20 years through their cancer awareness gifts and merchandise. Their inspirational and thoughtful jewelry, apparel and even fundraising items are designed by cancer survivors for cancer survivors, caregivers, newly diagnosed and those celebrating the life of someone who passed. Every purchase with Choose Hope supports cancer research, and they've given over $960,000 to fund cancer research locally and nationally.
In the spirit of supporting and empowering those affected by cancer, Choose Hope is providing the IHC community with the opportunity to win free awareness merchandise this month specifically for Testicular, Esophageal and Head and Neck Cancers!
