Could anyone give there experiences with mucosal melanoma. I was diagnosed with it Feb 2012.

I was diagnosed with Stage 1a, n0, m0 melanoma on 10/1/12. Had a wide excision and 3 lymph nodes removed. Clear margins and no lymph node involvement. So far, my only treatment is quarterly skin checks, semi-annual blood work and annual chest x-rays. Am trying to decide whether or not to have additional scans; my oncologist does not recommend them due to many false positives/negatives. I would like to get feedback on this. Who had scans; what they scanned. Did they find anything in a stage 1 patient? My odds are 96% of it NOT having spread, but that little 4% is a niggling concern. While I know there are many out there who would love a 96% cure rate, this still isn't 100% and I want to do all I can to make sure this doesn't get me in the end. Would appreciate any advice from those who have been there. Also success stores would be welcome. This has been very scary for me and I want to find out anything I can do to help myself.

My father has acral melanoma on his toe. We would like to initiate further research into the genetic markers related to this type of melanoma and are looking for other patients with melanoma who would be willing to join our effort. If we can compare the genes of many people with this type of melanoma we will be able to speed up the identification of related genes. If you would be willing to work with us please respond. I'd also like to find out more about your experiences with various immunotherapies. Thanks.

Have a relative with melanoma mets in brain. Any experience or encouraging news with this?
